Appropriate by playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, 2016 MacArthur Fellow, [his play War was commissioned by the Yale Rep and premiered in 2014] is a timely opportunity to explore society’s and our own history with race. It tells the story of the Lafayettes, a white family who come to the crumbling Arkansas plantation to liquidate their dead patriarch’s estate: “As they sort through a lifetime of hoarded mementos and junk, the discovery of a gruesome Southern relic unleashes crackling accusations, repressed fears, and more questions than answers. A challenging play on race, family, and if it’s possible for history to ever stay in the past.” Curious Theater welcomes the audience to a post-performance talkback.
